Reflection Week 1

On 16th February 2013, I have learnt about the function and the application of Google Drive in Teaching and Learning process. It is a server or place where you can store all your files and data such as videos, photos, Google Docs, PDFs into it safely. It can be managed by either individual or joint venture, both parties can manage the files in a joint project. Wow, its very interesting and amazing! 

What is a Google Drive??

Google Drive is a file storage and synchronization service provided by Google, released on April 24, 2012,  which enables user cloud storage, file sharing and collaborative editing. Google Drive is now the home of Google Docs, a suite of productivity applications, that offer collaborative editing on documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and more. Files shared publicly on Google Drive can be searched with engines like Open Drive (available as a Chrome app).

The advantages of Google Drive

• Easy to access files everywhere as long as you are able to access to internet.
• Easy to edit and make changes to the files and it is automatically save.
• Easy to access with various devices such as PC, Mac, iPhone and Android devices.
• Easy to search your files
• View any types of file such as HD video, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop and you don’t have to install or own this file type in your PC.
• Share your files with your friends with just a few simple click.
• Able to create an open discussion, reply to comments to get feedback and make files more collaborative.
• Its provide 5GB Disk Space and It’s FREE!

The disadvantages of Google Drive

• Hackers hack or remove your important data or they install virus into your server and your files are gone.
• Uploading and Downloading Speed will become slow down when millions of user it at same time
• Limited File Formats and only support 15 file formats.

Justifications

As we can see, the advantages are more than disadvantages at the moment. I believe that Google will upgrade their security system from time to time and ensure that no one can hack the files, it is one of the responsibilities of Google. In overall, it’s worth to try Google Drive, there will be more and more features added to the system, so keep an eye on that and try it for FREE now!
