Reflection Week 5

On 23th March 2013, I have learnt the application of Picasa Version 3.0. Its a very effective tools to edit pictures, slide shows, collages pictures and videos. 

What is Picasa 3.0?

Picasa is an image organizer and image viewer for organizing and editing digital photos, plus an integrated photo-sharing website, originally created by a company named Lifescape in 2002 and owned by Google since 2004. "Picasa" is a blend of the name of Spanish painter Pablo Picasso, the phrase mi casa (Spanish for "my house") and "pic" for pictures (personalized art). In July 2004, Google acquired Picasa from its original author and began offering it as freeware. Native applications for Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Mac OS X (Intel only) are available through Google Labs.

The advantages of Picasa

• It is available as free software.
• It can be used on windows as well as Linux.
• The online sharing option makes Picasa quite useful.
• It is quick to use and can be easily used by beginners. 
• It has a number of features like you can add light to photos taken in dark.
• The best option if you only want one or two photos.
• You have total control of how the text is shown relative to the picture. 
• Readers don't have to click anything - they're shown all the pictures when the page loads.

The disadvantages of Picasa

• It gives only one GB of free online space for storing photos which is less than the competitors.
• The search action is limited in nature.
• Very time consuming if you want to do more than a few pictures.
• Readers have to see/download all the pictures on the page, even if they're only slightly interested.
• Captions that you've entered in Picasa are not shown to readers.

Justification

Picasa is a user friendly software for a beginner. I really enjoy using Picasa as I able to edit photos and the most important part is, it is an absolutely free tool and can be downloaded free which is organised by Google. Even though it cannot be compared with some of the professional photo editing software, it comes with some advantages that make it giving a try. You explore Picasa by clicking the video below:
